Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has reported weak third-quarter sales of $1.1 billion in its most recent earnings report.
That’s below the $1 billion revenue Sony posted in the quarter, but far below the forecast of $2.5 billion.
Sony also said that the Xbox One was its worst-selling console in 2017, down 4% to 5.4 million units.
Xbox One sales dropped 14% to 2.6 million.
Xbox Live gaming services and games sales declined 5% and 9%, respectively.
The PlayStation 4 is still Sony’s best-selling platform.
“The Xbox One’s weakness reflects our continued focus on building the PS4 platform to meet our customers’ expectations for the future, and its continued focus for the platform’s future in the U.S.,” Sony said in the statement.
“For the third quarter, PS4 sales were below expectations and Xbox One shipments were below our expectations, but the Xbox platform remains the dominant console in the world.”
Xbox One revenue was down 15% year-over-year.
Microsoft and Sony were expected to share revenue data on Tuesday, but that didn’t happen.
Microsoft also reported a loss of $6.4 billion, or 7 cents per share, on revenue of $7.9 billion, and $3.6 billion, down from a year ago.
The company said it sold more Xbox One consoles than it had expected and that its sales for the console were down 13% year over year.
It’s expected to report earnings on Tuesday.
Microsoft said the Xbox 720, Xbox One S, Xbox 360, Xbox 720 S, and Xbox 720 Pro will sell about 5 million units this year.
Sony’s Xbox One division, meanwhile, is expected to sell a little more than 1 million units in 2017.
That number will increase in 2018, and then drop in 2019.
Microsoft’s Xbox division was hurt by the decline of Xbox One.
Sony had its first quarter disappointing numbers for both consoles.
Microsoft is not alone in its sales declines.
The PS4, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Switch have also struggled to find their footing.
