An oceanic giant catfish is making headlines for its portrayal in a new movie.
The fish, known as the Hawaiian Giant Catfish, has been the subject of a viral video featuring a man dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and Hawaiian pants who sits in a water tank in a park in Florida.
“The movie, which has been around for a couple of months now, is called Kīkī, and it is about a guy who’s a catfish and he’s a fisherman and he finds himself living in a tank with these Hawaiian giant catfishes,” said Kīlton Lippa, a professor of marine biology at the University of Miami.
Lippah said he’s seen the Hawaiian giant cats on film before, and he hopes this one will do the same. “
And so the fish just gets more and more aggressive and more and larger.”

“They are a lot bigger than you might think and they’re very fast,” Lippas said.
The movie’s trailer shows the fish in the water, which he said is the Hawaiian Tiger Catfish.
The footage shows the Hawaiian tiger catfish in the aquarium, where the fish are fed fish-shaped treats and are also shown moving through the aquarium.
The tiger catfishing film is scheduled to open in the United States in late March.
The Hawaiian Giant catfish, also known as Kītū, is an oceanic catfish that is about three metres long and has been a favorite of Hawaiian fisherman.
(YouTube/Tiger Catfish Conservation Society) The Hawaiian giant is a member of the kīkō family of fish and can grow up to 2.5 metres long, said Jennifer Leung, an oceanographer with the Tiger Catfishing Conservation Society.
She said it has been popular with Hawaiian fishermen for decades because of its large size.
“I don’t think it’s a new fish,” she said.
“It’s been around a long time.”
The Hawaiian Tiger catfish has been on the endangered species list since 1987, but its numbers have been steadily decreasing over the last decade.
It was last listed in 1989.
Leung said the Hawaiian catfish population has increased by 40 per cent since 2015.
In the 1980s, the population was around 3,000.
“We’re now at about 10,000,” she told CBC News.
The catfish’s popularity has been attributed to its ability to grow to lengths of up to three metres, but Leung doesn’t believe the fish will ever be able to go as large as they once were.
“To me, the bigger fish are not that exciting because it takes a long, long time to get there, but to me the Hawaiian Catfish is a bigger fish,” said Leung.
“So it’s going to be really interesting to see how it evolves and if it will continue to be popular.”
